Itunes importing WAV stuff???

ok, so i secorded something on my phone and texted it to my email. i downloaded it onto my comp, and put it on itunes. i got it on my ipod but it wont play. i found out that its cuz its something called WAV. im not sure what to do. i want it on my ipod, but i cant figure out what to do. help??
