Help in finding a pet like a tortoise?

I want a pet like a tortoise, to the fact that they can be kept indoors in a large vivarium and they can play and be let outside in the summer, however a tortoise lives too long as ill be heading off to university in about 8 years so would need something with a similar life expectancy, and im not allowed anything furry and dont like fish. And also turtles cant be played with so i wouldnt like to keep one of these.
