Why does the Dallas congregation where Rev. Wright preached today have an Egyptian ankh on the pulpit?
The Coptic Orthodox Church in Egypt uses the Ankh as a symbol (looks like a cross and means "life" in Egyptian), along with the ancient Egyptian sistrum as an instrument for worship. They've been around for 2,000 years. Although, probably the congregation were Rev. Wright was used it to represent Afro-centric spirituality. You know, like the Egyptians were black. It's not grounded in the archaeological record, just like most of the Old Testament where Moses evidently led 3 million people around the Sinai peninsula for 40 years.
