Are there any event that can back up the fact that Britain was never there for the colonists?

Are there any events or something that happened that can help to support the concept that Britain was not there for the colonists thus their wanting independence. Also are there any events you could think of regarding the idea of "No taxation without representation". Thanks for your answers!
